Overview

## What a garden makeover covers
A makeover is the whole space rethought rather than one element replaced: clearing what is there, resolving levels and drainage, then rebuilding it as lawn, paving, borders, timber and planting in the right proportions for how you actually use the garden.

We combine the trades we already do in-house: artificial grass, paving, groundwork and drainage, fencing, decking, timber borders, raised beds and planters. That means one survey, one quote, one sequence of work and one team on site from the first dig to the last sweep.

The design conversation starts with use, not with materials. How many people sit out, whether there are children or dogs, where the sun lands at 6pm, how much maintenance you genuinely want, and where the bins, shed and washing line need to live. Those answers set the layout; materials come after.

### Who it is for, and when

- Tired gardens where patio, lawn and fence have all failed together
- New-build plots left as rubble and thin turf
- Families needing a safe, usable space rather than a showpiece
- Homeowners preparing to sell or just moved in
- Sloping or waterlogged gardens needing levels and drainage resolved
- Anyone who wants one contractor accountable for the whole thingBook a free site visit

What it costs to ignore

## The cost of doing it piecemeal
Gardens done a bit at a time rarely add up. A patio laid before the levels are resolved has to be lifted when the lawn goes in. A fence installed before the groundwork gets damaged by the machinery that follows. Each trade prices defensively around the last one's work, and nobody owns the finished result.

The gaps are worse than the overlaps. A garden stripped in autumn and left waiting on the next contractor becomes a mud bath through winter, with exposed soil washing onto paths and drains, and planting windows missed by a year.

There is a safety and drainage dimension too. Unresolved falls send water towards the house, temporary steps and level changes stay temporary far too long, and a garden that is unsafe for children is a garden nobody uses. Sequencing the work properly is the difference between one disruptive fortnight and a season of disruption.

### Common mistakes we get called out to fix

- Buying materials before the levels and drainage are worked out
- Booking separate trades with no one sequencing them
- Leaving groundwork until after fencing and paving are in
- Designing around a photo rather than how the garden is used
- Under-specifying the sub-base to afford a better surface finish
- Ignoring where bins, sheds and washing lines have to go

Our process

## How we run a garden makeovers & transformations job
The same sequence every time, so you know what is happening and when.

- Step 1

### Free site visit and consultation
We walk the garden with you, measure up, check levels and drainage, and go through how you want to use the space. Grass samples and material options come with us.

- Step 2

### Layout and fixed-price quote
We agree the layout and materials, then give one written price covering clearance, groundwork, every surface and finish, and waste removal.

- Step 3

### Clearance and groundwork
Old surfaces, structures and vegetation out, spoil away, levels set and drainage resolved before anything new is built.

- Step 4

### Hard landscaping
Paving, steps, edging, retaining and timber structures installed in the right order so nothing later has to be cut into finished work.

- Step 5

### Lawn, borders and finishes
Artificial grass laid on its base, borders formed, raised beds and planters built, fencing finished and planting positioned.

- Step 6

### Clear up, handover, guarantee
Everything swept and washed down, all waste and plant taken away, and we walk the finished garden with you. Balance on completion, 10-year workmanship guarantee.

What you get

## The difference it makes

### Done in one go
A single mobilisation and a single sequence of work, instead of months of contractors coming and going.

### One price, one contract
Everything in one fixed quote, so nothing falls between trades and no extras appear where two jobs meet.

### Right order, right result
Groundwork and drainage first, finishes last: the sequence that stops new work being disturbed by the next stage.

### Genuinely low maintenance
Artificial lawn, hard surfaces and planned borders mean a garden that looks after itself rather than owning your weekends.

### Value you keep
A finished, usable outdoor room reads to buyers as extra living space, not a project waiting to be sorted.

### One team to call
The three of us do the work and remain the point of contact afterwards, covered by a 10-year workmanship guarantee.

In detail

## How we plan a makeover, and what goes into each part
Every makeover is a different mix of the same components. These are the decisions that shape the finished garden.

### Zoning the space
Most gardens work best split into three or four zones: a hard seating area sized for the furniture you actually own, an open lawn, a utility strip for bins, shed and drying, and planted edges softening the boundaries. Getting the proportions right matters more than any single material.

The seating area goes where the evening sun lands, not automatically against the back door. On tight plots we push the lawn to one side and run a path along the other, which makes a small garden feel longer than a square of grass in the middle.

### Levels, retaining and steps
Sloping gardens need a decision early: terrace it into flat usable levels, or grade it into a single gentle fall. Terracing means retaining, sleepers, walls or built-up edges, and steps with consistent risers between levels.

Cut-and-fill balance matters to your budget. Moving spoil off site costs money, so where we can we reuse material within the garden to build up a level instead of carting it away and importing more.

### Drainage across the whole plot
Looking at drainage garden-wide rather than surface by surface is one of the advantages of doing everything together. Falls on the patio, the lawn sub-base and any channels or gullies work as one system moving water away from the house and off the plot.

On the heavy clay common around Bolton this is what stops a new garden holding water in its first winter. Groundwork and drainage are our own trade, so it is designed in from the start.

### Surfaces: grass and paving together
Artificial grass and paving are specified as a pair, because the junction between them is where cheap jobs show. A fixed edge detail keeps a crisp line between lawn and patio, with both surfaces finishing flush so there is no lip to trip on and no gap for weeds.

Material choices carry through the garden: porcelain, Indian stone, block paving or concrete slabs for the hard areas, and a pile height for the lawn matched to dogs, children or light use.

### Timber: fencing, decking, beds and planters
Boundaries frame everything else, so fencing usually gets replaced as part of a makeover rather than left mismatched against new work. Decking suits raised areas and awkward corners where paving would need heavy build-up.

Timber borders, raised beds and planters give planting depth over any surface and keep soil off the lawn and patio. They also let us hold back levels neatly on a sloping plot.

### Planting and finishing
Planting is what stops a hard-landscaped garden looking bare. Structural evergreens for year-round shape, a few taller specimens for privacy where you need screening, and low planting along the edges to soften the boundary lines.

We position planting to suit the aspect and how much maintenance you want. A makeover can be very low upkeep without being all grass and slabs.

### Domestic, school and nursery projects
Domestic makeovers are planned around family use and appearance. Education and commercial spaces are planned around safety, footfall and durability, with more robust specifications and detailing.

We have delivered a large school project and multiple nursery installations alongside our domestic garden work in Greater Manchester.

Common questions

## Garden Makeovers & Transformations questions,answered straight
Anything not covered here, ask Shaun Brickell directly on 07757 559036.

How much does a garden makeover cost in Bolton? It depends on the size of the plot, how much clearance and groundwork is involved, the levels, and which surfaces and finishes you choose. We price on site and the written quote is free and fixed.

How long does a full makeover take? Most domestic makeovers run from a few days to a couple of weeks depending on clearance, groundwork and how many elements are involved. We give you the expected duration up front and work continuously rather than starting and disappearing.

Do you handle everything, or do I need other trades? We handle artificial grass, paving, groundwork and drainage, fencing, decking, timber borders, raised beds, planters and planting in-house. The only paving we do not do is resin.

Do you offer a design service? We work through the layout with you on site, zones, levels, surfaces and planting, and set it out in the quote. It is a practical planning conversation rather than a paid design package.

Can the work be done in stages? It can, but groundwork and drainage must come first or later stages disturb finished work. We will advise the sequence that avoids paying twice.

What guarantee do I get?A 10-year guarantee on our workmanship across the job, plus the 10-year manufacturer guarantee on any artificial grass. We carry £2 million public liability cover.

Will you clear the old garden and take the waste away?Yes, clearance, spoil and waste removal are part of the fixed price, so you are not arranging skips or left with rubble.

Is my garden too small or too awkward for a makeover?Small, shaped and sloping gardens are a large share of the work we do around Bolton. Awkward plots usually benefit most from planning the whole space at once.

How do payments work?A 25% deposit secures your slot and covers materials, with the balance due on completion once you are happy with the finished garden.

Which areas do you cover?Bolton, Horwich, Westhoughton, Farnworth, Kearsley, Little Lever, Blackrod, Bury, Radcliffe, Atherton, Chorley and the wider Greater Manchester area.
